Capital Sanctuary and White House (Inspired) Update (Criticism/Suggestions welcome!)
By - boogaloobrigadier
The barren wasteland and the green plants don't go together too well. Maybe get a "green mod" to make it look a bit natural. The structures look rather fine, but need a ton of deco though. Ofc.
Totally agree. In the past, every time I built settlements I didn’t go in with a whole lot of planning. Buildings would be too close/far away, weird locations for housing, services. I’m putting the buildings down first, then I’ll add power lines around them. Hoping to separate the city into grids with switches for ease on the frame rate. Once the town gets filled up, I’ll redo the foliage and add deco
How good/bad does this run
Man if mine is anything to go by it’ll have a big hit to frame rate. Especially when it’s fully furnished and decorated.
I love your builds! I’ve been following/searching this sub for ideas/inspiration. I really liked your storefront strip mall. I took a lot of inspiration from that for the storefronts I made. The orange brick is my attempt at rebuilding the generic destroyed brick stores in game. There’s a sidewalk to the right that leads to the back of that store with a large garage door. Going to setup a couple caravan posts for traveling traders. Since this will be the general store, figured it would be cool to have a vendor check in hangout spot
Aww thanks man, glad I could inspire even the smallest amount! That’s what I love about this sub. It’s full of awesome ideas and creativity.
The idea for caravan traders is really good. Kinda makes me realise I should have something similar now that I think about it! I just finished stacking and placing all the guns in my settlement armoury, which sounds easy, but I wanted there to be a little pattern and flow to it all. Now I just gotta stack some ammo, add explosives on the other side of the room, and then figure out what to do with the centre of the room. Maybe add more ammo shelves, a terminal guard post from CVC to have someone keeping stock, and a map or something for guards and scouts to get briefed around before heading out of the town. Anyway I’m just thinking out loud here 😅
I’ll definitely be decorating, but I won’t have ever house and store filled to the brim with clutter. Even if that makes it look a little less lived in, I’m hoping that sanctuary still stays functional. Maybe I’ll even make a settlement blueprint so other people can enjoy it (if I can figure out how)
Right now? Totally fine. Still pretty empty. We’ll see what happens down the road. Only about 4 days of playtime into this settlement…
What mods do you use for the houses and buildings? And that fence?
Snappy housekit for most buildings. I’ve used USO, Homemaker, and SOE for random bits. The fence is a brick retaining wall from snappy. Then the gate is prewar chain link and I used iron gates for the sidewalk either from USO/or homemaker. Can’t remember off the top of my head which one. USO and Homemaker have a lot of the same items
Big ones are snappy housekit. For random structure bits I have USO, snap n’ build, homemaker, SOE, grounded (landscaping), and reworked sanctuary roads
what's the mod you have for the repaired sanctuary roads?
Sanctuary reworked roads! It just makes the roads straight, clean and lined up without giving it a superb pristine pre war feel. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/23051
oo i like the main gate
Thank you! I wanted it to have a protected, secure vibe without it looking like a prison
I'm feeling Tropico 5 vibes, it's beautiful!
What are you thinking on to fill out the streets? Maybe putting some old-style lamps would be nice.
Yes, probably some older style lamp posts and power lines. I want the buildings setup first so they lights and power lines look uniform. Might do a couple vendor stalls throughout the street. If you’ve ever played Fable 2/3, the main city, Bowerstone has small vendor stalls lined up on the bridge into town which I thought was cool. I’ll be stealing that idea eventually.
Yep, please keep us updated, the settlement is getting really nice!
Maybe you could make the rest of Sanctuary green to kinda make it look like a GECK was used there? Maybe a Vault City sort of look?
Ahoy mate nice town layout ! Where did you get these cool ass brick houses ? What mod?
Snappy housekit. It’s an amazing mod with all sorts of building materials. There’s also interior/exterior wallpapers for custom colors/textures. The fancy house, for example, was made with the housekit materials then I did white brick exterior wallpapers! It’s a must have mod, even if you’re not doing a super fancy build
Great! Thanks a lot, keep up the good work!
gotta say I'm super jealous of people who can do this with fallout 4. Stupid Playstation would crash with this much building sans mods.
I started off playing fallout 4 on my buddy’s PS4 and loved the settlement system. Would highly recommend saving up and building a good PC gaming rig. You won’t be disappointed
I know I should. I originally fell in love with F4 on my buddy's gaming rig, it was so much better.
Totally worth it. I built mine for the sole purpose of playing this game but it’s come in handy for when I feel like playing something else. And most built systems have the ability to swap out parts if a new game comes out that you want to play
If it's white house inspired, and you wanna give it more realism, put a guard post on the roof and equip the settler you assign to it with a sniper rifle.
Absolutely! Will definitely be adding turret stands, greebles, and armed minutemen guards dressed in black suits and sunglasses haha
Haha yes very empty! Nowhere near done. I wanted to get the building shells in first then I’ll add a power plant, power lines, farm, etc
Can't wait to see final product. How about those ruined sanctuary houses though? Will you build something there as well?
I debated back and forth. I’m honestly going to scrap the prewar houses to keep everything within theme. I want this to be a nice, well developed town in the middle of the wasteland. Buildings will look nice and organized, but not super pristine. (Like no institute or super clean prewar structures) I have head canon lore for this particular playthrough of how the Minutemen achieved this look.
I also want to say how white house is one of coolest things I seen anybody build.
I was actually surprised no one built a replica of it yet! There are definitely some cool government buildings settlements with a neoclassical style similar to it. I wanted to keep the outside structure and window count true to the real life version. In doing this, the building space inside was small so I gave up the idea of doing an interior replica in trade for more open space
