So it's too late at night for me to type out my usual wall of text when this exact topic comes up but my main point is this. It is unfair to compare them to each other because they are too different. Yes the plots and pacing are virtually identical, but a super low budget weird time traveling unstoppable cyborg movie that came out of nowhere and was truly greater than the sum of its parts was spectacular and a giant huge budget (most expensive ever at the time) Hollywood by the numbers action blockbuster that was so well done it's almost a master's thesis in what a great piece of business art can be produced when the collaborators seem to care equally about the quality of the piece of art AND the giant stack of cash they'll make is just, mmm, chef's kiss. That's why they're so perfect TOGETHER
Sorry, wrote way more than I intended to:
The topic of “inner peace” was a poorly developed theme. Even though it is the essential message of the story, Po’s inner turmoil (we’ll call it) is barely developed and as a result the audience is left to speculate as to what it is exactly. When Po learns the truth from Shen, he almost immediately achieves inner peace in the next scenes when at his home village recalling the events of its destruction. Po should’ve learned the truth, somehow, much earlier in the story and the audience gets to see how his inner conflict, hurt, anger, etc. leads him to make terrible decisions and risks his friendship with the Five. It needed way more developing and attention. Were almost meant to compare and contrast Po with Shen and we can’t do that without that focus. Regarding Shen, his “need to let go of the past” was absolute nonsense and the writers can’t pretend that they included foreshadowing. His inner conflict needed justification. It was touched on briefly, but not justified. Maybe Shen becoming a scumbag was caused by a more reasonable event than getting the boot from his parents after killing people. I don’t know, but something relatable to the audience to witness his turmoil more. If we have this, I firmly believe this would’ve have been a perfect movie.
i also like aliens better. and its not even because its a more 'fun' movie, i really do feel like its a better film overall. the first one's strengths lie on Scott's arthouse sensibilities and is a masterpiece of mood and set design but the second movie has better storytelling and creates a more interesting world.
"Here's the target area."
"That's Minnesota, sir."
"Damn it, man, that's the genius of my plan. Why go over there to fight? We can do it right here at home, and get in some good fishing while we're at it!"
The Sonic Movie 2.
Just saw it in theaters and it was so freaking amazing. It's now my second favorite movie of all time. (Although the first Sonic movie is number four of all time so it's still pretty close lol)
Please please tell me Sonic doesn't floss anymore in the new movie? When I saw him floss in the first movie I almost fainted from cringe...
And I'd really like to see the new one since Knuckles is in it
You'll just have to go see it to find out... ;)
(Also regarding the first movie, I think flossing is so freaking cringe too normally, but it just fits Sonic's personality in the movie so well that I can't help but smile at it.)
Update:
Okay, today I went to see it, and luckily he didn't do it this time.
HOWEVER someone else did... But oh well, at least I got to see Knuckles finally♥️
The ones that come to mind is Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Godfather Part II and Aliens. Those three sequels were the best in giving the audience something new and bringing them to new places and situations.
Nolan's Batman
Batman Begins had to include an origin story and then of course the bad guy is from said origin story.
The Dark Knight Rises was okay, but you always knew that it was going to end the trilogy.
But The Dark Knight was a wildcard. No lengthy intro, no outro, just jumping straight into the action and then jumping back out again. Just a wild fever dream with little limitations.
Hard disagree. First one was filled with technicals and mechanics, upgrades, stuff that car ppl like.
2 fast 2 furious was already much less about it, all the following was just hot wheels unrealistic entertainment.
Wow, I thought more people hated ToD than RotLA, interesting answer!
Honestly I’m more of a Last Crusade kinda guy. Can’t get enough of Indy and his dad!
That one's always been a bit tricky for me. In terms of story it's probably better than the first one (which was a lot of Billy Crystal having an existential crisis for 2 hours) but the movie probably never would have happened if Jack Palance hadn't won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar out of the blue for his performance in the first movie, and even then I'm sure some writer had a panic attack when the studio execs ordered a sequel to capitalize on the Oscar, but they killed off Jack Palance's character in the first one so they had to come up with some excuse to bring him back.
Lion King 1.5 is better than the original lion king and I'll die on that hill. I've never been a fan of things where the central plot revolves around family drama, and thats all the lion king is. Pretty lion family drama. At least 1.5 was funny af.
I'm going to have to say the trainspotting series. T2 was better then the first tho T1 is amazing in it's own right. It's the first movie i almost walked out of for the baby scene. The one in the crib. But i love the message of hope that T2 brought rather then T1's everyone and everything sucks and I'm stuck in this hell forever. Also it was a big moment in my life i saw the movie. So it stayed with me even today.
Trainspotting is a great movie, T2 took too long to make as Danny Boyle pissed of Ewan McGregor by casting Leo Dicaprio in 'The Beach' and by the time T2 was made they were all too old and Boyle just repeated the ending to 'Sunshine' by turning the end of T2 into a slasher flick.
The only reason to watch T2 is due to nostalgia for the first, it in no way holds up as an original film.
While the 'crib' scene is fucked up, it perfectly encapsulates the type of people the movie is dealing with. The ending also works because it isn't about the 'good' guy winning, just the biggest scammer (although Rents leaving money for Spud is kinda nice).
Not to mention the banging soundtrack.
It essentially perfectly encapsulates the time period it was made it. A movie about herion and an ode to 'heroin chic'.
A LOT of trilogies have the second movies as their best entries, so, any of those.
I'd say the real unicorn is the one where there are only two movies, but the second one is better. Cuz usually if it was, there would've been a third one.
Empire Strikes Back is just a really damn good movie that was made with very little budget constraints and a crap load of a heart, talent, and brilliance.
Arguably the best overall visual appeal(Hoth, Dagobah, Asteroid chase, Bespin) and music score (Imperial March, Through the Asteroids, Hyperspace, Yoda Theme) of the entire franchise... and by far the biggest movie for the plot of the franchise.
The Dark Knight
SW:The Empire Strikes Back
Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug
LOTR: The two towers
Avengers: Endgame
Captain America: The winter soldier
Thor: Ragnarok
>but also lower lows.
Like Helen assuming that the Pizza guy was totally definitely not mind-controlled in the room for of mind control equipment in a movie about MIND CONTROL?
I'll watch the first movie again many times before I die, the second one? Once was enough. If I had to watch either Incredibles 2 or Morbius again though I'd choose I2
Terminator 2: Judgment Day

I went through the Terminator movies over Christmas, couldn't agree more.
You went passed part 2? Ouch
3 was alright. It started going downhill after that.
Exactly what i came to say.
Spiderman 2
Which 1?
no, 2
Can't wait to see how it goes with 4
I thought Kung Fu Panda 2 was better than the first. There was a huge weakness in the movies plot, but overall thought it was great.
Never would've thought a peacock could be such a badass villian
What’s the weakness?

Hot Shots
"Here's the target area." "That's Minnesota, sir." "Damn it, man, that's the genius of my plan. Why go over there to fight? We can do it right here at home, and get in some good fishing while we're at it!"
Minnesota is basically Wisconsin combined with Canada.
I never hear anyone talk about Hot Shots 2: Part Deux. I personally enjoy the first movie more, but 2 is also quite good
The Dark Knight
Evil Dead
22 Jump Street.
Ace Ventura : When Nature Calls. The rhino scene was the funniest shit I had ever seen at that point in my life.
Addams Family Values

I liked the first one but Spiderman 2 is the best!
Ace Ventura

The Sonic Movie 2. Just saw it in theaters and it was so freaking amazing. It's now my second favorite movie of all time. (Although the first Sonic movie is number four of all time so it's still pretty close lol)

Yay! Glad you saw it! Knuckles (and Tails for that matter) were so awesome! They did such an amazing job with it.
Yup they did!
Star Wars
Star wars
The ones that come to mind is Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Godfather Part II and Aliens. Those three sequels were the best in giving the audience something new and bringing them to new places and situations.
Gremlins 2 was MUCH better than the first one.
absolutely
Gremlins 2 is amazing. It's like if the people behind Airplane! made Gremlins and it works brilliantly!
Nolan's Batman Batman Begins had to include an origin story and then of course the bad guy is from said origin story. The Dark Knight Rises was okay, but you always knew that it was going to end the trilogy. But The Dark Knight was a wildcard. No lengthy intro, no outro, just jumping straight into the action and then jumping back out again. Just a wild fever dream with little limitations.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - still better than the first two!!
Batman Returns
watch it almost every xmas. ill always love it
2 fast 2 Furious is better than the original imo. But Ik a lot of people disagree. Then it only got better. 4 was better. Then 5. Then 7
Hard disagree. First one was filled with technicals and mechanics, upgrades, stuff that car ppl like. 2 fast 2 furious was already much less about it, all the following was just hot wheels unrealistic entertainment.
Yeh but the second had Eva Mendes!
stuff that car ppl like too.
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
T2
Terminator 2
Blade 2 over 1 and 3
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Wow, I thought more people hated ToD than RotLA, interesting answer! Honestly I’m more of a Last Crusade kinda guy. Can’t get enough of Indy and his dad!
Last crusade is my least favorite of the first 3.
I take it this is a joke.
City slickers 2: The legend of Curlys gold

Do me a favor, stay on that hill and don't move for a sec. When you see the wildebeest stampede coming, don't panic. They just want to give you a hug.

I'm going to have to say the trainspotting series. T2 was better then the first tho T1 is amazing in it's own right. It's the first movie i almost walked out of for the baby scene. A LOT of trilogies have the second movies as their best entries, so, any of those. I'd say the real unicorn is the one where there are only two movies, but the second one is better. Cuz usually if it was, there would've been a third one.

Just about any James Cameron sequel... which is why I really hope they don't fuck up Avatar 2.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Happy Feet Despicable Me Shrek Toy Story

Sonic 2. The original was more like an introduction but the sequel is where real sh\*t starts happening.
Terminator. The first one was pretty good, the second was amazing. The rest- lets not talk about those.
Shrek
Addams Family Values
This may be a hot take but I thought the Incredibles 2 was an improvement on the first movie
I disagree but don't think you're crazy. To me it had higher highs (Jack vs. raccoon, Violet at the restaurant), but also lower lows.
Fair enough
>but also lower lows. Like Helen assuming that the Pizza guy was totally definitely not mind-controlled in the room for of mind control equipment in a movie about MIND CONTROL? I'll watch the first movie again many times before I die, the second one? Once was enough. If I had to watch either Incredibles 2 or Morbius again though I'd choose I2
District 9. It was so much better than the first 8 that I barely remember them.
